In no way, shape or form, am I originally from a farming background. I was born in Sussex and I went to Bournemouth University when I was 18 to study International Food & Hospitality Management. After I had completed Uni I worked in the Hospitality industry for a few years until
I thought a career change was in order. I ended up working for an Architect firm in East Grinstead for 5 years as their Events Coordinator.
It was during this time that a school friend of mine who had moved to Sydney, Australia, said why don't I come out on a Working Holiday Visa.
And that's what I did. 2 years working on a Sheep Station in the Australian Outback. I gained so much knowledge and understanding of Animal Husbandry and so began my love for the farming way of life. I also did quite a fair bit of travelling around Australia and up into Asia, it was one of the best experiences of my life. I still keep in touch with Jim & Joy who I worked for in Australia. They are now like family to me and am so grateful to them for taking me under their wing, showing me the ropes, and most importantly, believing in me.
Once I was back in the UK I decided that I would go back to College and study Agriculture, and so a started a 3 year course at Plumpton. As part of the course I applied for a job in Wales for my placement year, meeting my now other half Edward at the farm as he was contracted to wrap the Silage Bales - a true romance story! That was in 2015 and we now run our own commercial flock of about 200 ewes along side my flock of Herdwicks and haven't looked back since!
